# Setting up Products

## This article shows you how to set up your own products so that they can be used in your Archilogic floor plans.

Setting up products is currently a **BETA** feature only available for certain **Enterprise-Level** customers.

### What are products?

Products are certain types of objects in the Archilogic platform that can receive a name, type, brand name, and other metadata. They consist of mentioned metadata, a 3D model, materials and a 2D projection. The easiest way to describe them is to think of them as a specific object, such as an Eames Lounge Chair, a MacBook, or a smoke detector. Whenever you drag and drop a furniture piece from the assets menu in the Archilogic Editor into your floor plan, you'll end up with an asset. The asset in your floor plan is always an instance of the product.

To add new items to your asset library, you need to create products.

### Fundamentals

Archilogic is a web-based platform. As such, everything within Archilogic is optimized and kept intentionally "light", including products, so that Archilogic floor plans perform well in any browser and without requiring excessive loading times or powerful graphics cards. This means that importing a highly detailed 3D model of a chair with a file size of 300 MB, 5 million polygons, and 20 different materials won't be possible. Instead, the 3D model imported into Archilogic should be optimized in size, number of polygons, and number of materials.

### Requirements

To create a product, the 3D model that you upload needs to meet the following criteria:

- Filetype 3D model: OBJ & MTL
- Filetype textures: JPG/PNG
- Available texture channels: Diffuse, Normal, Specular, Alpha
- Max file size: 25 MB
- Max polygons (triangles): 20000 (we recommend staying at around 5000 triangles)

#### Recommendations:

The optimization approach we follow is similar to that used in game design projects. We usually aim for 1 continuous mesh and 1 material with 1 set of "baked" image textures, if possible. We recommend using one of the following tools to optimize your 3D models.

- Simplygon
- InstaLOD

Additional recommendations to achieve the best-performing 3D models:

- Keep the polygon count as low as possible
- Make sure the 3D model has the correct dimensions and units (Meters) before importing
- Ideally, the 3D model consists of only one mesh
- Make sure there are no holes in your mesh
- Make sure there are no flipped normals in your mesh
- Make sure the 3D model is oriented correctly

Example of the correct orientation out of Archilogic:

Example of the correct orientation out of Blender:
  ![blender\_mnJWmhYb15](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/blender_mnJWmhYb15.png?width=670&height=630&name=blender_mnJWmhYb15.png)
- Make sure the 3D model is properly centered (origin point at the bottom and in the center of the 3D model)

### Creating a product:

To create a new product, open your Archilogic Dashboard and switch to the Products section by left-clicking the **Products** button on the left side of the window.

![ProductsDashboard1](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/ProductsDashboard1.png?width=246&height=277&name=ProductsDashboard1.png)

Then left-click the blue "**Add product**" button.

![chrome\_FLkY2m5Zs9](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/chrome_FLkY2m5Zs9.png?width=233&height=81&name=chrome_FLkY2m5Zs9.png)

You will switch over to the Product Editor. Here you can add metadata for your product.

**Name**, **Manufacturer**, **Category,** and **Seat capacity** (only for seating furniture, such as a couch or chair) are mandatory. The rest you can leave empty.

![chrome\_5o5iQR7hmK](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/chrome_5o5iQR7hmK.png?width=670&height=507&name=chrome_5o5iQR7hmK.png)

Scroll down on the right side to the Geometries section and left-click the "**Add**" button to upload your 3D model.

![chrome\_0kKHhppLqv](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/chrome_0kKHhppLqv.png?width=349&height=136&name=chrome_0kKHhppLqv.png)

The upload window will open. Either left-click the blue "**Choose a file**" button to select the files you wish to upload, or simply drag and drop the OBJ and MTL files together into the box.

![chrome\_BwNqv16ife](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/chrome_BwNqv16ife.png?width=670&height=496&name=chrome_BwNqv16ife.png)

At the moment, image textures for the materials have to be uploaded separately and not through this menu.

Once you've uploaded the OBJ and MTL files, you'll have to upload the image textures for the materials.

To do this, left-click the geometry field.

This will lead you to the Geometry Detail section of the product. Here you can upload the image textures to all the materials. Simply select the material and then drag and drop the image texture from your computer into the correct texture-type field.

The image textures must be square and of the JPG or PNG formats.

There are 4 texture types available:

- Diffuse (color combined with shading)
- Normal (controls bumps or smoothness)
- Specular (controls shininess of the material
- Alpha (controls transparency)

You can also adjust the Color Diffuse, Color Specular, Specular Coefficient, and Opacity values.

- Color Diffuse (Will mix colors with your diffuse map. We recommend keeping this 100% white if you're using a diffuse map.)
- Color Specular (Will mix colors with your specular map. We recommend keeping this 100% white if you're using a specular map.)
- Specular Coefficient (Controls the hardness of the shininess. The higher the value, the harder the shininess.)
- Opacity controls how opaque or transparent the object is.

Once you're done, left-click the left-pointing arrow next to "Geometry Detail" on top of the material menu.

Left-click the refresh button at the lower-right corner of the product preview to generate the thumbnails for the Archilogic Editor.

![fiO2Fhe4bh](https://help.archilogic.com/hs-fs/hubfs/fiO2Fhe4bh.png?width=670&height=415&name=fiO2Fhe4bh.png)

Finally, left-click the **Published** toggle to make the new product show up in the Archilogic Editor.

Then click the blue **Save** button in the top right corner.
